1. What kind of styling do you like to see in an RPG game?

I prefer classic fantasy stylizing, but steampunk would add a nice twist to it as well.

2. What kind of combat system do you like to use?

I like real time more as it offers more maneuverability and personalization to the fighting style of most players.

3. Is the story important to you when playing an RPG?

Story is VERY important, but it needs a good mixture of game play and story to keep me coming back for more.

4. Do well-presented Cutscenes improve the experience for you?

Yes.

5. Do you prefer a levelling system to be simple and easy to use or deep and complex?

A balance of both, for example you can choose to be a mage right, and you can decide what skills you want (fireball, lightning, etc) but what if you want some physical abilities.... I have yet to see a flash game that offers a type of multi-classing system, and I guess that is what would make it memorable.

6. What's your favourite Flash RPG series? Choose from the list or add your own.

Epic Battle Fantasy.

7. Are you more likely to play an RPG Flash game if it has good graphics?

It adds to the experience but game play is what pulls me in, but I think that I gave somewhat of an explanation in question 3.

8. Is there anything you dislike about RPG games in general? Please list.

They keep the same classes, and races... I want something to think outside the box. MAybe instead of a Paladin class, make a Templar class... they have holy might but they mostly tank... or something like that. Just get creative, is all I'm saying....

9. What do you consider to be the most important aspect of an RPG game?

Most important aspect? Most likely game play, without it the game falls flat on its face, it can have the greatest characters and plot of all time, but if it's just a carbon copy of every other game out there, I end up making excuses to not play it.

10. What's missing from Flash RPG's? Is there anything you really want in a free flash RPG that you've never seen before?

I answered my biggest peeve in question 8, if there are any other problems I guess it'd just be story... try and have a fabricated reason behind every happening. Don't just pull a, "oh no, danger, chosen one, help!" Story line, I guess is what I'm saying.... Be unique....

Sounds fun.

1. What kind of styling do you like to see in an RPG game?

Fantasy

I prefer fantasy over most other RPG styles when it comes to RP simply because it's what I've been used to while growing up. It just seems to me that most fantasy RPG's involve more character devlopment and are moreso focused on a distinct storyline, providing a more better gaming experience.

2. What kind of combat system do you like to use?
Turn based

Once again, I prefer turn based combating systems simply because that's what I'm used to. Although real time combating systems can be fun, I find that for the most part they're poorly executed. An old fashioned turn based combating system, however, can never go wrong. :)

3. Is the story important to you when playing an RPG?
Yes

The entire reason I, personally, play an RPG is to get into the storyline. To me, character development and proper storylines are the key elements required to create an effective RPG game.

4. Do well-presented Cutscenes improve the experience for you?
Yes

As long as the cutscenes are necessary for the development of the RPG, I love to see them in the games I play. To me, cutscenes can, and usually do, add more to the storyline, or can be used to better execute character development.

5. Do you prefer a levelling system to be simple and easy to use or deep and complex?
Simple

Personally, when I play my RPG games I do it for the sheer storyline/game itself. I don't like to spend a lot of time deciding which way I should level my character and which stat needs to be focused on moreso. I just like to get stronger while playing the game. Perhaps if a type of class could be chosen at the beginning of the game it'd be more enjoyable, but overall I prefer a simplistic leveling system.

6. What's your favourite Flash RPG series? Choose from the list or add your own.
Sonny

Sonny is by far my most favorite Flash RPG ever created on either Newgrounds or the entire world wide web. It has a well executed storyline, and the potential for a decent character development. The levelling system is a bit dragged out but not complicated nonetheless, and the turn based combating system is enjoyable.

7. Are you more likely to play an RPG Flash game if it has good graphics?

It adds to the experience but game play is what pulls me in.

While playing my RPG's, I usually look past the pretty graphics and focus moreso on the time spent on creating the characters and storyline (as I've mentioned many times before.) Although it is nice to see well executed graphics, it's not entirely necessary. I'll sit down and play FF1 before I'd play WoW any day.

8. Is there anything you dislike about RPG games in general? Please list.

Real Time battling systems, for the sheer fact that, for the most part, I've yet to see anyone who could decently execute a proper real time system that would make the game enjoyable.

No storylines/character development. I find RPG's with none of the aforementioned are just boring, and are mainly used to waste someones time. When I do find the time to play a game, I'd like something that's going to peak my interest both physically and mentally.
9. What do you consider to be the most important aspect of an RPG game?

10. What's missing from Flash RPG's? Is there anything you really want in a free flash RPG that you've never seen before?

Not in particular. With the release of Sonny I was quite satisfied. Come to think of it, though, more character development never hurts!

1. A mix of all or even Modern would be cool.

2. Real Time. Turn based is so slow, boring, and repetitive.

3. Yes, it is one of the better parts of an RPG, for me.

4. Yes, if they are worth it. A Skip button is always handy too.

5. A balance of both. If it takes forever to go up 1 level and there are 30 total, then I will get bored of the game and move on to something else. If you beat the easiest enemy in the game and instantly max out at the highest level, then it will be boring from then on out unless there is something else to work towards.

6. Another Small Favour

7. Definitely, I love the pretty!

8. I don't care for slow turn-based battles, but otherwise I'm fine with most parts.

9. A good balance. Heavy graphics with a crappy system isn't any good. As well as having a great system, but then only stick figures.

10. I've always thought that a free-world type game where you just walk around would be cool. If the graphics are worth it, this would be a nice feature to unlock for winning the game or something.

1. What kind of styling do you like to see in an RPG game?
*Sci-fi
*Fantasy
These two are the ones i prefere the most.

2. What kind of combat system do you like to use?
*Real Time
Both of them are very good. The turn based uses strategy, but the real time is more action.

3. Is the story important to you when playing an RPG?
*Yes
I think it is very important for a full, epic RPG.

4. Do well-presented Cutscenes improve the experience for you?
*A bit.
I do prefere them, but sometimes they just get boring, so add a "Skip" Button.

5. Do you prefer a levelling system to be simple and easy to use or deep and complex?
*Simple
Leveling musn't be complex, if you level up, you should just add stats (for example agility, dexterity, vitality ect.)

6. What's your favourite Flash RPG series? Choose from the list or add your own.
*Monsters Den
*Mardek RPG
If using the list, then monsters den, but if i can use one of my own favourites, i choose mardek.

7. Are you more likely to play an RPG Flash game if it has good graphics?
*Definitely, I love the pretty!
I'm sorry to say this, but i'm a gfx whore. Graphics are the most important thing to me.

8. Is there anything you dislike about RPG games in general? Please list.
I dislike that some parts get boring, or every thing gets useal, so i would really enjoy "A Fast Forward' That would increase the gameplay speed 3,4 times

9. What do you consider to be the most important aspect of an RPG game?
As i said before, Graphics and Action. And i think most of the game players would love a variety of moves.

10. What's missing from Flash RPG's? Is there anything you really want in a free flash RPG that you've never seen before?
Well, I would love that there would be a class change (For example, Sorcerer, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin ect.)

1. What kind of styling do you like to see in an RPG game?
Non-cliche.
I've had it up to here with final fantasy wannabes. I would really dig an Earthbound like game, where you play as children fighting against robots, aliens, and hippies.

2. What kind of combat system do you like to use?
Turn based

3. Is the story important to you when playing an RPG?
Yeah

4. Do well-presented Cutscenes improve the experience for you?
Yes, but having excessive cutscenes or poorly done cutscenes can ruin a game.

5. Do you prefer a levelling system to be simple and easy to use or deep and complex?
A balance of both of course. Go divergent gameplay!

6. What's your favourite Flash RPG series? Choose from the list or add your own.
Another Small Favour

7. Are you more likely to play an RPG Flash game if it has good graphics?
It adds to the experience but game play is what pulls me in.

8. Is there anything you dislike about RPG games in general? Please list.
Grinding. I don't play that many RPGs, but the grinding always gets me.

9. What do you consider to be the most important aspect of an RPG game?
The flow. I hate it when there is an impossibly hard boss that forces you to stay in the same area and level. Epic battle fantasy did that right, you were always at the right level for your area.

10. What's missing from Flash RPG's? Is there anything you really want in a free flash RPG that you've never seen before?
Cliche-breaking.

Also, something seems weird about the heroes' eyes. It sort of reminds me of this:

(It's ironic.)

Yes

4. Do well-presented Cutscenes improve the experience for you?

Yes

5. Do you prefer a levelling system to be simple and easy to use or deep and complex?

A balance of both.

Another Small Favour

7. Are you more likely to play an RPG Flash game if it has good graphics?

It adds to the experience but game play is what pulls me in.

8. Is there anything you dislike about RPG games in general? Please list.

the overly complicated skills or bonuses or upgrades. like you asked on #5, try to keep things simple, but give it some depth.

9. What do you consider to be the most important aspect of an RPG game?

the story

10. What's missing from Flash RPG's? Is there anything you really want in a free flash RPG that you've never seen before?

i never really play Flash RPGs because they are usually pretty shitty. id say, based off the picture, that your game looks turn based, try to take as much advice from the game 'golden sun' as possible, as thats the only turn based game ive ever truely liked. and i loved it.

1-Steampunk
2-Real time, it makes you feel like your in contol rather then just influencing an event.
3-I believe rpgs are more story driven then other genres so yes story is essential.
4-Shoddy cutscenes often mean a shoddy game.
5-Abit of both is nice
6-Another small favor, strong gameplay is backed by amazing graphics
7-I think graphic need to be on equal terms with gameplay, you dont want to play an ugly game and you dont want to play a game that gets boring after 10 minutes
8-I dont rpgs that arent original
9-design. cool characters, weapons, enviroments all serve to draw you into the game

1. What kind of styling do you like to see in an RPG game?
Steampunk, easily.
Too many of the others. Steampunk lets you choose a great many ideas, without taking ideas previously chosen.
It can even allow more story, or a two sided game. (Or a sequal) First game is pre-apocalyptic, second is post. It will allow you to branch out more with yoyr art. Steampunk is very detailed, and it will easily show if you tried hard on the art, or just slopped through. (Motivation get!)

2. What kind of combat system do you like to use?
I, myself prefer a turn-based combat in a flash RPG. Console RPGs have readily available pause buttons. Flash ones sometimes do too, but it's always placed inconveniently, or too far away. A Turn-based system allows me to maybe check the forums, while the enemy does a flashy attack that I've seen before, or to use the bathroom at a moment's notice.

3. Is the story important to you when playing an RPG?
YES! VERY MUCH YES! If an RPG does not have a good story, then it seems much less fun. In a flash RPG, story can slide a little bit, if the game is loads of fun. But always have an obviously present story. Epic Battle fantasy was lots of fun, but it almost seemed like a miniature RPG. There was a story, sorta. It was there, after you beat the game.

4. Do well-presented Cutscenes improve the experience for you?
Cutscenes can convey feeling better than text ever could, and they always help the story, as long as they're well-presented.

5. Do you prefer a leveling system to be simple and easy to use or deep and complex?
A balance of both, leaning a little towards complex. I like lots of skills, and lots f levels. (But don't make it a grindfest.) A lot of weapons, lots of armor, and the characters to be unique, in terms of skills and weapons.

6. What's your favourite Flash RPG series? Choose from the list or add your own.
A mixture between the first three.
I enjoyed the large item variations, and the large about of character classes to choose from in Monster's Den. Epic Battle Fantasy had a fair amount of balance going for it. (Plus the pretties.) The healing was just right, and each sword had it's place. Sonny's battle system was alright, but the skill tree was the best part. The hook of "you;re a zombie, now find out why" was unique, but it seemed a little rushed. (the story)

7. Are you more likely to play an RPG Flash game if it has good graphics?
I would say that graphics definately play a part in appeal, but graphics of the quality above is enough to draw be in. Some graphics can be the bait, but the gameplay is the hook.

8. Is there anything you dislike about RPG games in general? Please list.
Overly flashy move, that tae too long to perform with no option to skip them.
Enemies that require a large amount of grinding to have a hope to defeat.
Quests that have a story that leads nowhere.
I also hate it so very much when mages are gimped, and warriors are the nly choice to win.

9. What do you consider to be the most important aspect of an RPG game?
In console RPG's, story is very important, followed VERY closely by how fun battle is. In a flash RPG, gameplay replaces story. I still enjoy a good story, but if the gameplay is good enough, the story can slide a little bit. But even if you let the story slide a little, make sure it all makes sence. Don't have any quests that seem like there should be some connection to the main story, or like they should have a follow up quest, but leave us hanging. (if you're in need of ques ideas while making the game, feel free to PM me. Not like I get any PM's anyways. =p)
Another thing to worry about, especially considering prior RPG's, is balance. Assuming that the second screen contain the only characters, one warrior archetype and one magic-esque character, then healing might become problematic. (which may be what you're going for, I don't really know.) Just don't make healing so rare, worthless, or expensive that there's no point to learnz my mage somez healingz. =p

10. What's missing from Flash RPG's? Is there anything you really want in a free flash RPG that you've never seen before?
Originality. There's too many Middle-Earth and Fantasy RPG's. Try a new hook, like the aforementioned Steampunk or Sci-Fi. (But not SyFy)

Ahh everyone loves playing an RPG every now and then.

1. fantasy
(gotta love those flowers which try to kill you, those evil gremlins and those amazing enviroments)

2. Turn based
(I think final fantasy has become a worse game when they changed to real time. With turn based its more planning than just running out there and destroying everything and i like to plan ahead.)

3. Yes 100%
(an rpg with no point to it is... well... pointless. Theres nothing to look forward to. Nothing to be excited about)

4. Yes.
(This helps the storyline alot and everything just seems more EPIC!)

5. balance of both.
(systems too simple ruin the effect of personal characters. Whereas a system too complex will not be fun to level up and it will just be annoying.)

6. Epic Battle Fantasy

7. Definitely, I love the pretty!
(espesially if it's a fantasy game. Fantasy games have to be fantastic with graphics not plain and boring or not very detaled. The better they are the more my mind wonders into the world you have created for me)

8.
RPG's need to be unique somehow not all the samey
RPG's without alot of eneies just gets annoying
RPG's with a rubbish HUD is also annoying

9. levelling system and enemy asortment.
(These will make an RPG epic.)

10. a good map which can be free to roam and explore.

Hope this will help you.
:)

1. What kind of styling do you like to see in an RPG game?

Classic middle earth

When I think of this I think of games like Legend of Dragoon for playstation 1. It had to be one of my most favorite RPG games that I have ever played and probably one of the most in-depth playstation 1 game ever.

The whole knights and take your turn battle system along with leveling up is just awesome in my opinion.

2. What kind of combat system do you like to use?
Turn based

I was a little torn between the two, but I really like the turn based. I know that real time is more realistic, but the turn base gives a really cool strategy feeling to games and sometimes you just want to sit back, think, and enjoy the game without having to hack at everything.

3. Is the story important to you when playing an RPG?
Yes

Yes, this is the main point of any RPG for me. I mean I really leveling up and everything, but having a really in-depth story almost makes you forget that you are playing a game and makes you think that you are a character in the game itself. If any game can do that then it's going to be one that I'll probably enjoy.

4. Do well-presented Cutscenes improve the experience for you?
Yes

This goes along with the story part. Amazing movies to tell the story in between is awesome and a nice reward for playing a game so hard for such a long time.

5. Do you prefer a levelling system to be simple and easy to use or deep and complex?

A balance of both.

My best example to explain my answer would be the leveling system of FFX. When you leveld up your strength, defence, etc... leveled up on it's own. I like this because I never distribute my points wisely.

Then on top of that they have you choose abilities and power-ups in addition to leveling up which is really cool and allows you to develop your character the way you like.

6. What's your favourite Flash RPG series? Choose from the list or add your own.

I'm going to go with something slightly different.

Epic Battle Fantasy 2 :P

The reason for this is because of exactly what I explained above. They naturally level you up and everything, but it's you that have the choice of what to pick and how to develop your character. Simple if you want it to be, but complex if you want it to be.

7. Are you more likely to play an RPG Flash game if it has good graphics?

It adds to the experience but game play is what pulls me in.

Like I mentioned before I'll play the old playstation 1 games. The graphics aren't really that important to me, but if they are great then that's even better. Gameplay is the biggest thing though.

8. Is there anything you dislike about RPG games in general? Please list.

I hate when they end! Ha, really I don't like the endings to a lot of RPG's as they just make me feel left out and dissapointed whenever the end to soon or without what I thought should be the proper ending. It really helps if you make sequels to prevent this though.

9. What do you consider to be the most important aspect of an RPG game?

When they draw people in and make them feel like they are a part of the game. Story all in all.

10. What's missing from Flash RPG's? Is there anything you really want in a free flash RPG that you've never seen before?

The ability to save your characters stuff between sequels. I don't even know if that's possible, but it's always something that I thought about. Just length in general though. When I play an RPG it's because I want to play a game that is going to take a really long time.

;)

1.Fantasy and Sci-fi
2.Real Time
3.Yes, or else it gets pretty boring
4.YES
5.Both
6.Another Small Favour, yours i like
7.Any graphics would be fine with me, just the game play is what matters
8.They lack creativity, they all sorta steal ideas from eachother, look at the new Dragon origins game, just another dragon fighting game.
9.Creativity and to be Unique, also its not all about the fighting, they should add more story
10.Newer story lines, not to be all dungeons and dragons and swords and magic, they should create new ideas such as new world technology, i was thinking someone should make a game about 2012

FUCK YOU

you fucking suck

1. What kind of styling do you like to see in an RPG game?
I'd like a good steampunk rpg.

2. What kind of combat system do you like to use?
Real Time

3. Is the story important to you when playing an RPG?
Yes

4. Do well-presented Cutscenes improve the experience for you?
Yes

5. Do you prefer a levelling system to be simple and easy to use or deep and complex?
A balance of both.

6. What's your favourite Flash RPG series? Choose from the list or add your own.
Sonny

7. Are you more likely to play an RPG Flash game if it has good graphics?
Definitely, I love the pretty!
I dislike a crappy looking game, and if you just look at the same shitty graphics over and over again, it gets old.

8. Is there anything you dislike about RPG games in general? Please list.
They're all so... repetitive, and all similar in so many ways. Plus they're all either Medieval/fantasy.

9. What do you consider to be the most important aspect of an RPG game?
Making sure everything is very different, because i hate fighting crappy monsters over and over again with the same dull background, and also i dislike an rpg that's only fighting, i like an rpg in which i need to think. Also story is extremely important, along with customization.

10. What's missing from Flash RPG's? Is there anything you really want in a free flash RPG that you've never seen before?
The story line, one that you can actually influence a little bit, rather than it being the same.

1.Classic/ Middle Earth, i dont really like it when people make futuristic rpgs because theire story line ends up boring and they often leave me cofused.

2.Turn based although there definatly arent enough real time rpgs on ng that have been executed properly. So if u can do it right kudos i will like your game.

3.Of course games like epic battle fantasy are great and all but i would have enjoyed it so much more if there was a story line.

4.Yes but not if they are animated/drawn poorly that kills the whole gaming experience.

5.I like too have a happy medium, games like sonny and monsters den are great but when i would level up i would have to sit there and read and compare all of the skill i could upgrade and improve and i didnt like that because they took away from the time i actually had to play the game.

6.Athalina RPG, Hero RPG, and My pet protector, and Dragon Boy.

7. I don't really care about graphics it doesnt really make a difference unless its ugly. I've played text based rpgs and they have been good even though they didnt have any graphics.

8. Confusing storylines, random characters end game boss switcharoos.

9. Definately Divesity. I enjoy having little minigames or sidequests in a game.

10. Interactivity, a lot of flash games dont have this and it takes away from the overall experience.

Oh amy rehab never looked so good im going back

1) Fantasy
2) Turn Based
3) A bit
4) A bit
5) A balance of both
6) Epic Battle Fantasy
7) Definitely, I love the pretty!
8) Enemies who uses 1-hit KO moves
9) Plot, storyline
10) Storylines where you choose different paths. Like a good or evil path

1. Steampunk / Fantasy

2. Turn based

3. A bit.

4. Yes, but I won't complain since that could take a lot of extra effort.

5. Complex, as long as you can't permanently mess up your characters too badly.

6. Epic Battle Fantasy ofc

7. Definitely, I love the pretty!

8. Excessive level grinding. This is only tolerable if the game is awesome.

9. Killing things, getting exp and items.

10. Uh, dunno.
