nice lets talk about this in private ;)

Your new game looks SWEEEEEEET! Can't wait to see a demo. You have a unique art style and I really enjoy your work.

You mentioned in your post that your 'eyes were opened to how little you were actually getting paid' but in post #12 you mentioned

"Then i got home, found out how much Penguinz made off kongregate and partied for a few weeks and bought myself shiny new 2.8Ghz Macbook Pro"

It seems like you made quite a bit from Penguinz, especially if you you bought a $2,000+ computer from the ad revenue you got off Kongregate.

(I'm guessing you made additional money from the upfront sponsorships and game licenses as well)

:)

Hey thanks man that really means shit loads :)

Well when I said that, I kind of meant flash developers as a whole. Penguinz did do very well, surprisingly well, but we were lucky and realised the potential of a performance based sponsorship. Speaking to Glaiel, he really doesnt make a lot from his games considering how original they are and how many people they entertain.

When you see games like Fantastic Contraption making $100,000 + in a few months, you can see that the real money is to be made directly from your audience, rather than relying on ad revenues.

Im not saying its the route to take for every game, but it gives developers an opportunity to spend longer making better games. If you can get a large userbase with only a very small percentage spending a few dollars to take the experience a little further, youll make 10x more than ads or even performance based sponsorship.

Cheers for the comment man!

Oh yeah, i paid for the macbook with the money from Medieval Mercenaries from you guys :)

Fantastic Contraption is a very cool game and unique story. I don't know all the info, but it was purchased by inXile Entertainment. (Which for the record is a very reputable company. They are located in Newport Beach and the owner Brian Fargo is a great guy)

So in addition to a large up front payment, inXile developed an iPhone version which sold very well, they also developed an entire web property around the game and use their other properties to promote the game.

All these things combined to make FC a 100k game. :)

So choosing smart partners, wise distribution channels and exploring all opportunities of revenue should continue to make flash gaming a lucrative business.

I don't think MT is the end all solution. I think its 1 of many tools that developers can continue to use to make $$$ from their games. Not all sites will allow MT on their portal, but if they don't make sure the buy a game license. : ) Either way, it's a win-win because you make from from MT's or Game LIcenses.

Re: Glaiel
The kids a genius! Once Closure comes out on Xbox, iPhone and all the other systems he'll make a very good return. :)

Yeah, to be fair there are very little games that have done as well as Fantastic Contraption. I didnt know they had released an iPhone version, I thought the $100k was from selling the level editor alone!

Anyway, this is the way ive been looking at some of my future games. There are so many great games out there that could have been taken so much furthur and been done so much better if only the developers could afford to spend a few extra months...

I really want to push the kind of experiences you get with Flash games. It is a great platform for simple puzzle games, but where are all the original classics like we see on consoles? Flash is capable of pulling it off, it just seems there are very little devs out there that can afford to sit and craft games good enough to be called all time classic games.

Hopefully MT's will change this and allow us to be able to afford to make amazing games :)

I think extra content should be free, just loads more adverts..
